Chapter 10

On their way to Roxanne’s house, she kept looking toward him admiringly, lost in a fantasy where they were married and roaming around like this in their car. For that brief time period in the car ride, she kept imagining that future, and how great that would be, and kept wondering how she could’ve ever thought she deserved less.

Watching him drive had a hotness to it, the way his eyes were darting in between cars, how he kept his hand on the steering wheel, how he turned, for some reason Roxanne was finding all of this attractive. She felt stupid, and part of her wanted to distract herself from it, but part of her wanted to do naughty things, even though they were in the car.

“So what’s your life like these days?” he asked as they were on the way.

“Nothing much happening to be honest. Just trying to make peace with my family in a lot of ways, figure stuff out.” she tried avoiding the question.

“No I mean, what does your day go like these days?” he asked, finding her vagueness a bit weird but yet again dismissing it, thinking he might be making her uncomfortable.

Everything was going perfect about their relationship, but Chris was really starting to wonder why he kept having these brief moments of doubt, and whether it was healthy for them to be there. He wanted to make her his, and was being a way that he hadn’t been in a long time. There was no room for regret.

But something about her innocence and childish behavior always convinced him that there could be nothing harmful, even if she wasn’t completely open. There was much satisfaction he got from having been the first person to have had her, and considering everything about her, he wasn’t surprised to have the desire of wanting to be the only person who had ever had her.

After a moment of consideration in which she looked out the window, Roxanne replied, “Well, I’m mostly in bed. To be honest you’re the only person to have seen me in my maximum level of activity these days, otherwise I’m a sloth. I read books here and there, make paintings, blast music, but I’m always holed up in my room.”

Chris felt pity for her, wondering what it was that could’ve gone wrong to have someone so full of life be afraid to leave their room, or prefer loneliness to human company.

“I suppose I won’t be seeing your face again for a while huh.” he said jokingly, trying to cheer her up a bit.

“That’s not true at all. When I say these days, I mean days before I knew you existed.” she retorted with a shy smile on her face, not wanting to admit to his face the change in mood he had brought in her life.

“And now? What will your days be like now?” he asked, his question having a dirty tinge to it, his eyes staying on her body as they waited for the signal to change.
